80 frame reinforcement

Getting ready to start making mounts on my frame for suspension, body, etc. Had it sand blasted yesterday.

Was looking at Jeff's linked Scout II build, and saw he was using 1/4" strap for plating the frame. Was just wondering if thats overkill?

What is anyone else using?

Kinda depends where you are using it. As a frame doubler like for a suspension attach point 1/4 is a good idea. To box a c section frame, 3/16 is fine. Frame gussets and triangulation of an overhanging feature like a shock mount 1/4 is again a good idea.


I can say for certainty that Jeff builds rigs that can take one hell of a beating and keep on ticking. When in doubt I will go up one size, it really can't hurt to error on the safe side.
