80 engine mounting

Im trying to figure the best way to mount a 351 in my 80. Deciding between a cradle style mount, and mounts sorta simlar to the stock 152 mounts that would not have a built in crossmember.

If I dont use an additional crossmeber at the motor mounts, will the frame be strong enough? I plan to reinforce the frame with 3/16 plate, I just want to make sure the strength of the frame can handle the wieght and power (figure 300 hp and torque)

I bet that 351 is hardly any more weight than a 152 or 196!!!!

A 152 dressed weighs about 585lbs.!!

I'd go with the individual mounts to the frame rails on each side. Those frames are very strong and rigid, much more so than a Scout II.

I've worked with Todd in swapping a 345 into an s80 using Scout II side mounts to the frame, no problem at all and a 345 weighs in at around 725lbs. Dressed.
