75' scout II, wheel hop

I have 33x12.5 mudd tires, and the wheel hop is pretty bad...anyone else experience this? What can fix it

Describe wheel hop. Typically wheel hop is when you peel out and the rear axle bounces. Does it do it while driving down the road? What speed? Front or rear?

The wheel hop is coming from the rear, pretty much if I try to get in front of someone at a light it feels like the truck is gonna shake apart, I have to let off the gas and reapply, and then its fine.

If it's that bad it's going to be something obvious 95/100 times. Check all your bushings, ujoints, ubolts, spring mounts, etc. Make sure the transfer case bolts are tight. Post up pics if you can.

I will dive in this weekend, I will post up some picts later

If it's just happening when you first get on it from a dead stop, and doesn't do it after you back off and get back in it while you are already moving, it May be clutch chatter. Easy way to check is just have someone stand to the side and watch what's going on. If its true wheel hop you are destroying the rear springs as they wrap up and unwrap - they will actually get s shaped multiple times while your getting wheel hop.

Even if its automatic trans?

Yep, that pretty much eliminates clutch chatter, thought about that after I answered. Don't know what springs your running, but softer springs don't help. A heavy (thick) half leaf added on the top of the spring stack, from under the spring perch forward to the eyelet can help. Acts like a traction bar.

I bought the Scout the way it sits from a guy that trailered it to the trails, it has a ARB air locker inthe front, detriot locker n the rear, 4.56 gears, 33x12.5 tires, the shackles maybe 2"-3", and the leaf springs seem soft. I'm not going to change anything to altar the ability in the dirt, just to drive on the road.

I am just seeing if this is normal for anyone else, I have a lifted k5 blazer before this, it didnt hop as much and it was lifted more...not that that is a reason.

Kind of sounds like someone built a real nice trail rig that you are bound and determined to break. If you want to do smoky burnouts, get yourself an old muscle car and have at it. Those tires are way to heavy to be lighting up, especially if they are mud terrains or better.

Not much help and lots of assumption. Probably could have done without it.

To the op...please get a helper to competently operate a device capable of capturing a digital video that can be uploaded for community consumption. Drive to a safe place where you can simulate this condition and have the helper capture it on video. Upload it and link us to it so we can maybe see what's going on. Then take some well focused and well lit pics of your Scout undercarriage from multiple angles. Or we can just keep spitballing.

I agree with scoutboy. If possible this will help the most. However, I will say I had something similar in a Jeep I had back in highschool with soft springs. There was a smiley face painted on the rear differential and when you took off the face would literally Bob from spring wrap.

This could also be the locker chattering, you May want to check the tire pressure in your tires to ensure the locker doesnt think one is smaller then the other simulating a turn.

Flat spot on tire? Had that happen to me once. Long story, but it involved panic stop and locking up front brakes causing flat spots in both front tires. Could also need wheels balanced. Other than that, without seeing a brief video, as others mentioned, it's all speculation and guessing games.

Ouch, I bow to the voice of moderation and apologize for my previous comments, must be getting a bit cantankerous in my old age. Until the source of the problem is fixed, I would tend to ease up on the right foot though, hard wheel hop is bad for every component between the tires and the back of your tranny.
