I am about to redo all the wiring in my Scout to prep it for the afi kit thats en route, I am redoing the entire guage cluster with isspro guages and the stainless backing plate. What I wanna know is, what wire kits do you guys recommend for me to get for the dash cluster and the rest of the vehicle? Also, with the afi system, does it come with an ignition controller of some sort to eliminate the gold box?

We sell kwikwire kits available on our online store as well as dash wiring kit. See this link - wiring kits - IH Parts America: Scout parts
Either the 8 or 14 circuit wiring kit will be more than enough.

As for the afi system I have not taken an order on one for awhile so I am not sure what you ordered. Did you order it direct from afi or ???

Jeff has great prices on rewire kits, that's for sure. Quick google search proves that! buy painless classic Bronco & Scout wiring kits & accessories at rjay's speed shop! As for circuits, it depends on your end goal. I would get as many circuits as you can get, but I have added many extra electrical items.:icon_eh:

as for the afi and gold box, I assume your going to run fuel injection? I personally would get rid of the gold box and modify the dissy to allow full control by the ECM. That way you get both fuel and spark control.:yesnod:

edit... Bill usn-1 is the FI moderator here. But here a link to a sticky

Ok, so if I buy the 14 circuit vehicle wiring kit
part #: wiringkit-14 , will I still need the dash wiring harness , or does it come with it, either way, no problem. As far as the afi getting rid of the gold box, it comes with a new distributor. The kit I am gonna get is the 1500 ish dollar one. I would assume for that kinda money I would get some kind of ignition control with it.

The dash wiring kit is only needed if you want to remove your entire dash panel and only have one plug for the connection. Otherwise the regular wiring kit will attach to your aftermarket gauges. I highly recommend the dash wiring kit when setting up an aftermarket dash panel with round gauges. See attached picture.

As for the afi kit it comes complete with a new modified distributor so your old gold box will no longer be needed.

Also, I am a electrician by trade, so is there a book or some kind of manual that would have the electrical schematic for this vehicle. I am just not that familiar with vehicle electrical. I know with a print though it would be a breeze for me. Forgive me for being such a nooby to the vehicle wiring world hehe, but the inputs from the sending units go into the main harness I take it and then goto the dash plug . . .?

Well I am getting great info from you, I was wondering if you had a full seal/weatherstripping set for this vehicle. I was also wondering how much price wise I will be looking at for a Scout ll tub with pretty heavy rust , to get it patched with metal, not bondo and to have the frame powdercoated? I am located in ms if that helps at all.

welcome to the ihon forum earth !

normally I try and help folks out with requests for schematics and such onna "one-time" basis . but the electrical system info for a Scout II is kinda unique in the ihc-produced service references . the entire electrical system with the legend, the pictorial locations and the actual schematics for all possible platforms/components is spread over thirty+ pages ! so it's not an easy/simple scan as for other similar ihc platforms . and ya gotta supply year model for this since there are many variations spread over the production run from mid-1971, through eop 1980 .

so this is definitely a case where ya need to pony up for a service manual set in some fashion ! the manual set for m/y '78 and later (cts 2313) is considerably different from the earlier manual sets (cts 2304 and cts 2310), all are available here:
