Hi all,
I'm a new Scout II owner and working on getting it running. I apologize if my terms aren't correct, I am mechanically inclined but not a mechanic. Barn find, no rust, sitting for 10 plus years. Trailered it home. Drained all fluids, replaced every hose, gasket, wire, filter etc. 345 v8 auto, 4x4. The owner recently replaced shift cable as this was the reason he put it in storage. Cable broke so he parked it. While replacing the trans fluid and filter (nice red color, no gunk in pan) I noticed the cable ran in front of the speedo cable and looked to be binding. I rerouted the cable behind the speedo cable so it went to the rear and had a nice smooth loop back to the front. I noticed the cable did not go back to the mounting bracket I assume it attached to this bracket at the loop back to the front.
Got the engine all set and running and took it for a test drive. I put it in drive and pulled it out of the garage and when I went to put it in park, it made a grinding sound as thought I have a 4 speed and the 1st gear wasn't synced and was grinding to get it. This was going into park. I shut it down and put it in park. It did this a couple times and was when the engine was at a high idle. I wasn't moving when this occurred. It also seemed as though I was was in low 4. In drive it crawled along. I made sure I was in 2 high on the transfer case but would swear I was in low 4.
Any suggestions on diagnosing and steps to remedy?
Thanks
