rebuilding engine with a 268 Comp Cam. Builder is suggesting a 2K-2.5K stall. 727 TF Trans has been rebuilt and is fresh. Are there cons or trade offs in installing that high of stall?

Also does anyone know the stock stall for the trans?

Are you racing this vehicle? That high of a stall speed is going to build a lot of heat. I wouldn't go much over 2000.

Not racing it or doing any offroad/4x4 other than dirt roads. Mostly just a fun daily driver. sounds like 1800 is ok to leave in it.

also may change gearing in the diffs to a more highway friendly ratio down the line. impact on the converter/trans?

So your choice of cam( latter torque band maturity) and a tight converter means you’ll wait a little longer for peak acceleration in first gear. Once you pass that you want latter shift points. All the slippage of the converter will continue even in top gear without a lock up converter, thus creating a ton of heat that the trans cooler has to dissipate. This is the biggest reason you should cam an auto smaller than a manual. In your case go tight on the stall 1800~ and see what f you like it. It will likely leave lazy and pull latter. It that’s really it. Play with gearing for better leave and low speed acceleration.
