727 Seal Drivers?

Hi all,

I found out my transfer case (t-case) has been filling up with atf and bleeding it out all over my garage floor and that means I need to replace my rear seals.

I went ahead and yanked the t-case and removed the rear housing extension though I understand that May not be necessary I just wanted to examine it thoroughly on the bench.

I read in the IH manual that a specific seal driver is used to drive the double-seal system in at the correct depths. The driver is used to drive the inner seal in first then a spacer is added to the driver to set the depth for the second seal.

I have been looking for the tool for several days with no luck. I assume folks do this often enough - where are they getting the tools from? Or, more likely, what are they using in place of the listed tool?

There is actually two separate seals that face back to back from each other. One keeps trans fluid in the transmission and the other keeps the gear oil in the t-case.

I have standard seal driver kit with using the correct size driver for the seal to install them.

He shows the vent hole, in that adapter, that ultimately ends up centered in between the two seals.

Scooter,

think you could be so good as to lead me towards a decent enough "standard seal driver kit." ?? I don't own any such tool and wouldn't know what to look for.

I've attached two photos.

The first is from the 727 rebuild link on binder planet. It's his IH extension housing with his output shaft seals installed.

The 2nd is a similar shot of my extension housing's seals.

Which one of us has their seals in backwards? Or are they just different types of seals?

Sorry, don't have a link at the moment for the driver kit that I have. I either purchased it from summit racing or horrible freight.

In the first photo, I think he used a different type of seal. The second photo is normally how that one seal should be facing. That way it will keep gear oil in the t-case. The other seal, which is placed just inside of the one shown, needs to face the opposite way, which will help keep the trans fluid inside the trans.
