The po told me they were both for the 345. He was wrong. Stupid me didn't look at them side by side until they were off the trailer and in the shop. :mad2::cryin:

so, can anyone tell me what the 727 on the right is for? Amc? It has the same texas style t-case adapter.(IH only right?)

Just about anything you need to know regarding the tf 727 begins with this thread which is stickeed right here:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/transmission-tech/588-torqueflite-727-guapo.html

I've posted complete information in that thread for making a positive id of the 727 variations.

Your transmission in question is a pullout from a 4x4 Scout II running the amc 258 sixbanger motor. The bellhousing is completely different compared to an ihc-pattern bell.

Internally, the 727 for the amc engine was built slightly "softer" and has valve body calibration, along with governor calibration that works best with the power characteristics of that engine. The oem torque converter also was manufactured with a slightly different stall spec.

Also, the balance setup/factor for the amc engine as far as the torque converter and flex plate is concerned is completely different as compared to the same components used behind the various ihc-produced sv engines.

The tailhousing/output shaft system used in the married Scout II applications for either engine are the same however. The bull gear is a 727-specific 23 spline item with a pitch angle of 17.5* that must match the intermediate gear in the d20 transfer case.
