So, I converted my '72 Stepside to 4x4 using a '75 disc axle, pitman arm, drag link, a '73 4x4 steering mount, and '68 4x4 3/4 ton front springs. Even though the pitman arm is a little shorter on the '74/5, the angle looks pretty flat. When I took it for a test spin I'm thinking, man, this handles a lot like my '78 Scout. I could have sworn the D-series had at least 2 degree caster because I've had a '74 pickup 4x4 before and it tracked nice and was very forgiving. But in looking at the manual, sure enough, it's between 0 and 1.
I know the frames of the '72 verses the '75 are different, but are they that much different? I doubt they used shims ...? Did '74/5 use a front spring where the eye wraps over the top verses the bottom? Mine wrap underneath. Would that even make a difference? I really don't have the $ at the moment to get it cut and turned. Any ideas?
If it were strictly mine I'd live with it, but my daughter wants this real bad so now it's up the ante for me. I can't have her sneeze and wind up in the other lane.
