66 1100a T98A-10 Transmission

I have what appears to be T98A-10 Transmission. I had posted earlier that top speed on the rig was 45mph and that it acts like it needed one more gear. At the time I did not know what type of transmission was in the rig.

I have confirmed that the rig is not stuck in low range. If you put the thing in low range, it crawls. :D

I would like to get the thing up to highway speeds. I can find little information on this transmission so far and the books I have show T15,16 T-44,45,418,419 and 445.

What I did find is the T98A is a lower geared transmission, but I can't believe this thing ran its entire life with a top speed of 45mph. :)
This link says the T98 could be a T18. The only way to look is to get inside.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

I hooked up a tach tonight. I think all is good. Bad exhaust system and no insulation made it sound like I was inside a tin drum at 2k RPM. That is a relief.

Hi again, seems you have the travelall twin to my truck, the t98a is odd, when I shift 4th im at around 30-35 if im remembering properly, 4th is direct drive and mine (35inch tires, 4.09 gears) spins up to 65 and 70 in a sprint) and let me tell you, its
LOUD!!!!
See? They practically twins. I have a couple links for you on the t98 that I found for info sake, I will add them once I find em again. There are rebuild kits with synchros available, I will be doing mine probs in the next year, also I think you said in your other thread your t case is the np202, let me know, I have a source for rebuild for it as well and will hopefully be doing a seperate thread sometime soon for a complete rebuild. Mine has what I think might be bearing noise starting around 40mph
Edit: heres the article I mentioned, there wasnt alot of info other than this that I could find anyways

Another note, the service manual has good info as well

Ive just realized ive given you the same link :icon_xd:
Another way i would suggest to id it before you crack it open is to check your lst. If your engine block serial# matches id say its a safe bet that its a t98a.
