I have a weird squealing noise when my truck is put into drive or put into neutral. I began to hear this noise the same time my transmission lost 1st gear then lost reverse. I let it sit for a couple of days then tried it again and now all the gears are working????? I checked my transmission pan for and metal shavings or chunks and did not see any. I did see that my rear band is possible broke?? I uploaded a video to youtube in hopes of a answer to my problem. video here I do not believe the bands have ever been tightened. :mad2:

Well, there isn't anyone hereabouts who is familiar with your particular trans, but judging from your video, I'd say the relationship between the low/reverse servo piston and the band apply mechanism is totally jacked up. There shouldn't be anywhere near that much play. The apply mechanism should be under constant tension with the servo piston. So I think digging deeper into why there is such obvious and excessive play there is well warranted.

This transmission is in a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.2(318). Would you have someone over haul it for $840 when u drop the transmission yourself?:icon_stressed:

I wouldn't pay that much for bench work only on a 3spd a727, but your a518 does have the overdrive unit on the back that requires servicing in addition to the main section. That means more parts to disassemble, clean, inspect and put back together. It also requires more consumable parts be included in the overhaul kit, at additional cost. When all that is factored in, their figure May not be so far off.
