4 Speed to 727 Swap

I have a 1973 IH Scout ll with a 345 and I want to swap in an automatic transmission that was made for my 345 in the first place. The reason I want to do this is, that I have a wife who wants to drive it on trail rides from time to time and she is to put it nicely, a clutches worst nightmare. I don't feel like replacing clutches after every time she drives it. I wanna know basically, a complete list of all the parts I need to hunt down to do the swap from manual to tranny. Including the parts that go inside the scoutll to let you know what gear and whatnot your in. Sorry, I just wanna make this drivable for a completely clueless woman. Sorry if I offended any women from this post :icon_eh:

The best way to do this is find a completely rotted (and that's not difficult at all!) sii (304/345) that is complete mechanically and rob the entire drivetrain from the engine/crankshaft hub back! There are many detailed pieces involved in this so it's not a simple "parts list" kinda deal! And that includes making provisions for the nss (neutral safety/backup lights) system for the slushbox conversions. You will also need all the "kickdown" stuff from the donor from the carb linkage back.

And an sii 4x4 that was oem with a I-4 (196) motor is gonna have some different tranny internals also, and the throttle pressure control linkage is majorly different.

If you will let us know where you are located, we might be able to provide more concise info and some leads.

I am located in biloxi ms, I wish there were some Scout shops around here like IHOnly, but every one and there cousin here does jeeps only. Also, with the whole carb linkage part, I am also converting this to TBI. How would that all work then. Btw michael, you are the man for how fast and how detailed you are in your posts.

Great! A guud 'ol suthern boy like me (tejas).

We do have some IH rig contacts down in tha swamp kuntry, most of my buddies are yore neighbors in jawja...lemme do some checkin' for a donor for ya, May take a few days though. They might trade for sum shrimp and crawdads!

All the "kickdown" stuff on the sii motor will connect right to the throttle body setup, dam near a drop-on but ya May need to make a few tweeks on the linkage, just like when ya swap around carbs. So it is gonna operate exactly like a stocker, even the adjustment process is the same. All that throttle body iz, izza halfazz 'lectric carburetor anyway! Halfazz means no fuel bowl!

Earthmover, I would be interested in swapping my auto for a standard. I have a 72 with 727 behind 345. I want a standard and not sure how to go about it. The trans does slip a bit in first then fine in second and drive. It would cost 700 to rebuild so I am thinking of finding a standard. Let me know if interested.

Ya think the m1 is classic? Ya oughta hang out with trukker and the rest of his posse for a few days. Them boyz and gurlz will take ya ta town twice in one day!

Here's sum of tha kidz ya oughta steer clear of.
