392 rebuild started missing

Your right it is water pipes to the block = ic
I never have to much faith in a parts counter guy when odd vehicles are the topic.

Don't feel bad, I have had guys supply me parts along with their engine to rebuild and the gaskets were wrong. I didn't catch it till I looked around and saw the water jacket port hanging out in the breeze... :mad2:

I guess corn binders arnt my nitch! Put it back together and fired right up but no oil pressure! Shut it down and checked my mechanical gauge! Left line lose on gauge and cranked over with ignition disabled and no oil! Pulled distributor and spun it with my drill and got oil pressure!!! Dist gear is tight and looks in order! Can I get an adapter for a Chevy bell and swap it out! Never had so many issues building engines! Try again tomorow!

How long did it run before you shut is off?
It should have sounded like a bucket of rocks.. Did it?

Did you pull the bottom end apart this time? If so, what did you disturb?
The only thing I can think of it a missing oil pickup tube to oil pump oring or the wrong one... You spun it over directly on the pump and had oil pressure..
See if you can get the dizzy to stop on the oil pump drive by not lining it up...

It only ran about 30 seconds before I shut it down. And yes it sounded very bad, lot of valve train racket. I did nothing to the bottom end this time just head gaskets. So I pulled dizzy and spun oil pump drive gear with a drill and got pressure. Re installed dizzy and fired up with good pressure. Drove truck again and about 5 miles down the road she started making all kinds of horrible noise still holding good oil pressure. She is going out back and getting deep six'd. Not going to mess with it any more. Thanks for all the help this is a great and helpful group.
