Hi everyone and happy thanksgiving.
I recently bought a 392 that was supposedly rebuilt and had a schneider cam put in it. It was in a late model Scout that was being run on propane and was built for off roading and mud bogging. When I went to check it out the guy started it for me and it smoked a tiny bit on start up but it ran nice. It has stan headers and msd ignition and I paid 400 for the motor and tranny complete without the propane hook up. So anyway, it seems like a great deal but the owner didn't know which cam is in it and I haven't been able too identify it. I took off the valve cover and it's super clean, I took out a spark plug and it's literally shiny inside and there's no carbon build up at all. The engine is like new and I want to put it in my 71 1210 travelette but I am going to use the truck for mostly towing and hauling stuff. I'm worried if it's a performance cam that I will be disappointed by the "performance" and loss of low end torque. Schneider offers a variety of cams so it could be anything.... What do you all think I should do? I really don't want to tear it apart to figure this out, so keep that in mind too.
This is exactly what the guy I night it from told me: rebuilt International 392. Schneider custom ground racing cam, lifters, and valve springs, shaved heads, machined exhaust ports, 11mm wires, mad 6al ignition box, pertronix stealth magnetic points delete, stans shorty headers with full dual 3" back. Flow master knock off 10 series.
