Hey guys, I never really post on the threads and I just kinda read these but ive got a 345 and found a good solid 440 that I want to swap up to. Do you guys know if I need any parts or tips to make this easier for me, thank you, much appreciated:smilewinkgrin:

If you search, you can probably find some info

in the IHSTO forum on this site, orange 3.0 and pink have mopars.

Pirate 4x4 site probably has threads on the subject.

All I know is that you have to fabricate motor mounts and that IH transmissions (bell housings) do not bolt directly to mopars (or any other manufacturer's engines) and no one supplies adapters to do so.

It would also help to know some other particulars like what vehicle platform this is, what comprises the remainder of your drivetrain, availability of other necessary mopar components, fabrication skill level...etc etc.

Well its a 72 Scout II with the 345 and tf727 transmission and ive heard that a 440 would bolt right to it, so im not sure if its true or not and if it is I guess I would only need to fab some motor mounts for it but I still gotta see what theyd need to look like.

Mopar engines have been successfully swapped into Scout II's numerous times, but it is not a direct bolt-in procedure. Careful fabwork is required. The 727 currently behind your 345 has a bell housing bolt pattern that is unique to the IH sv8 family of engines...266-304-345-392...and thus will not mate to the 440 engine. You will need to source a mopar 727 with the big block mopar pattern to put behind the 440. Also, if this is a 4x4 Scout and you wish to utilize the Dana 20 married transfer case, you will need to swap the output shaft, planetary gearsets, and adapter housing into the mopar version 727 in order to mate them together. This will require complete tear down of of both transmissions and re-assembly of the mopar donor with appropriate sii output parts installed.
