345, 727 and Driveline Package...

... could be available in a few months . checking to see if anyone is interested . location: sherwood oregon .

replacing the drive train in a 1973 series 100 step side, with a sbc and 700r4 4-speed automatic transmission .

345 motor is strong and pulls hills like they are not even there . however, there is a leak in the rear main seal . the motor has been optimized and carb professionally rebuilt a month ago .

the transmission is in excellent condition .

if anyone is interested, I will post the sale once I have the conversion under way . if there is no interest, I will core it to portland engine rebuilders, against the sbc motor they will build for a replacement .

regards,

dave

This will, most likely, be a spring project, so I am a few months off. Just figured that anyone interested might appreciate a heads-up and be able to plan for the buy.

I am guessing right now, but somewhere in the neighborhood of $800-$900 for the combo. Other than the rear main, the engine is problem free. If I replace the rear main, the price will be more. A professionally rebuilt motor alone, can easily exceed $1,200.

The only reason I would toss in the tranny, is because I don't want to drop $600 to "adapt" to the sbc... When I can bolt on a 700r4 and have a better trans with 4 speeds, allowing me to keep the 3.73 rear gears and still have a strong low end while cruising the freeway at a normal rpm... 30% lower than the current trans/rear end combo.

I am not an IH purist, so I have no special place in my heart for the 345-727 combo. Given that most people who want to do a swap or upgrade, are not inclined to jump all over a 345-727 package, only someone that owns an IH would be interested, and they will find good quality used, original, 345-727's few and far between, so even getting one for a "spare" works for them.
