3 to 4 speed tranny swap

Looking at putting in 4 speed manual tranny for low first gear, for wheeling slower. Will it bolt right in? Is it low enough to make a big speed difference. Thanks

What's it going in?

My scout II has a 4 spd wide ratio with 6.32:1 1st and with the dana 300 2.7:1 you can walk beside it while it crawls. Going to a 4:1 with even lower gears I could likely walk faster tha it lol.

1974 scout II with T18 and Dana 20. I may not be able to find wide ratio. Standard is 4.02.

Any 4wd wide ratio T19 that came out of a Scout II will bolt right in. The transmission mount will no longer use the Z plate on top of the rubber block like your T18, but instead will bolt directly to the crossmember through the rubber block.

Yup:

what Scout2 is saying is pretty much the word. I did a swap from a T-18 to T-19 with a D20 TC. THis is in a 4cyl with a 1bbl. works just fine when crawling. I love it, but DAMN! the T-19 cast Iron casing is heavy! you will need a Tranny floor jack and a buddy to help out. But do it and you'll never look back.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the 4-speed manual utilize a different bell housing then the 3-speed manual? .....Or can the 3-speed bell housing be modified to fit the 4-speed?
