241 straight six questions

Looking at a 66 International pickup with the 241 straight six motor and I was just wondering what kind of mpg would this motor get and is this just a good motor in general? Any advice is appreciated.

I'm a little more familiar with the 258 straight 6 and had about 12 mpg on a good day. But I was runing a real fat carb and no over drive. Stock form for the 241, depending on the transmission, I'ma guessen, could fair a little better in mpg. As far as reliability goes on that motor, I really couldn't tell ya much about it.

IH sixes are very good engines, right up there with the Ford 223 or 300; and the Chevy 235. Very durable, my 67 Travelall has approximately over 300k on it's engine and no known overhauls; I'm the 2nd owner.

Like anything mechanical, dependability can depend on previous owner's maintenance; or lack of it.

Mileage you'll see is probably gonna be around 12 to 14 mpg depending how deep your foot is in the throttle, axle ratio, and the weight it's pushing.

Resurrected a 241 in a 68 t-all a couple years ago, not quite a daily driver but a weekly driver avg's 12 but anywhere from 10-15mpg depending on how ya drive

I got a steady 10 mpg in my ta, so I'm replacing it with a Jeep 4.0l with fuel injection and o/d auto (it has 4.10 gears)
