2.5" spring Issues?

Basically, with an SOA and 35" tires on my '73 Scout with d44s front and rear. Has anyone come up with any issues flexing out the stock 2.5" springs or have they held up to many extremes? I don't see an issue with them, yet. Was just wondering. It seems that they flex just fine and I like the travel I get with them.

Well pardon me, rock tractor... I don't understand the ' what?' in your reply.
I am running stock springs on my Scout with a SOA. I am just wondering if anyone has had any issues with this setup, perhaps with the springs breaking in extreme situations or whatever, just curious, I mean I will not go through the trouble of upgrading to say 4" springs if it is not necessary. I run 35" tires and am currently eating up my "z-link" steering, of course a hi steer is in the making.. I have many other upgrades to do. I don't see any issues with running 2.5" leaf springs, which if you think that they don't flex enough, well then I beg to differ, I am very pleased at the flex I have.

Anyhow I appreciate the reply, it shows me that you are paying attention, and I can count on your feedback. I will assume that, by what I know of myself, that you are viewing this forum after a long hard day at work and enjoying a beer or something else when you respond... In that case cheers!!!

Don't take it personally. We all miss read posts and have trouble hitting the correct answer. After all we are all only human....right? :arf:

the stock 2.5" wide spring will probably yield (be permanently deformed) if stuffed to your original bump stop position. To many yields back and forth and it will eventually break due to fatigue failure.

If you limit your flexing to not exceed the point where it is deformed you will get a good spring life.

Flex it then return to level ground and see if your ride height is unaffected. If so you will probably be safe. If you get a lean or change in ride height you have yielded the spring thus exceeded the springs ability to flex.

In general a spring pack with the thinest individual leafs will tolerate the most flexing without yielding. Bad thing is a pack with thin leafs needs to have more leafs to achieve the same level of stiffness. It is always a compromise.

These are general spring rules soooooooooo.

hth a bit.

Here is my what. Stock Scout springs are 2" wide and about a flat arch. 2 1/2" wide springs are not stock, nore are 2 1/2" lift springs. So in order for you to get a factual responce, we need factual info.

Are the springs just stockers? Are they aftermarket? I have run and broke alot of springs, just trying to help.

Ride quality on stockers is good. If you are gonna wheel it at all, you will have some rubbing. 2 1/2"'lift springs are a waste in my opinion. Ihonlynorth sells some 4" lift springs that have a military wrap that I highly recommend. Since I've been running them I have not broke/bent a spring. Bsoutii on this board just put a set on. We just spent 5 days on the rubicon and they worked awesome.

Hope that helps.
