1979 Traveler, Carter Thermoquad, 727TF, PS, PB, A/C, Tilt, Cruise, D44 front and back, Detroit TrueTracs front and back.
After a lot of years, I am spending this summer putting everything back together for this Scout. I have the shop manuals, but I will still be asking some pretty "anal" questions along the way, so forgive me.
First up: Intake manifold bolts: do they take thread sealer? and the torque specifications?
After reading the "old iron" lube/oiling instructions, I am following the the step by step readout. Have used a spare distributor for spinning the oil pump to get/see the oil flow: when clocked to each side of the rocker arm shafts, tons of oil flow! Also, when spinning the distro, plenty of oil going to the valve lifters. this is good!
That being said, just to get the engine started and broken in, what do I need bolted up? Power Steering (I don't think so?), smog equipment (smog pump/air tubes)?
I am thinking I only need the alternator hooked up. I've been reading tons of posts here (IHpartsAmerica), but haven't seen/read anything in detail. Please let me know:
