1977 Traveler 345 fuel pump

I just bought a mechanical fuel pump from IH Parts America, it’s stamped M6959. My old pump is stamped 0-1932, I don’t see any brand on it. The actuator on the new pump is longer than the old one, and the mounting flange on the new pump is quite a bit thinner than the old one is. Is there supposed to be a spacer for the new pump?

No spacer required. 6959 is a part number common to Airtex and Carter brands and is specified for a broad range of IH gasoline engines spanning many model years.

In my experience the 6959 & the M6959 are the same, except one of them has the pump body further away from the mounting engine surface to provide more clearance.

I find either pump will fit in many instances, but some applications will require only one or the other, but not both.

As to which is which, I'm not home right now to check the pumps I have on hand to verify. Maybe in a few days I can check them.

Thanks Scoutboy74, I replaced the bolts with shorter ones, the back bolt would would bottom out before the pump was tight. I also turned the engine until the lobe was away from the pump arm, bolted right up.
