I have owned this Scout since 2011. We bought it from Susanville California and had it shipped to Iowa. It had a blown 304 when we purchased it.
This Scout is rust free except for the floorboards that had some pitting due to the factory floor mat. I used the gray POR15 on them as soon a I got it. Rear floor board is clean except for a hole drilled in it. We have a lot of photos before and after as we pulled it apart, cleaned it up and got it running again. I found a 304 from a IH motor rebuilder on the east coast and actually bought his last 2. We have been driving it around for the last 10 years in the summer months for fun and what we call level B roads in Iowa. This Scout has never seen snow here. The previous owner had sanded the gold paint down to metal in some areas and primed it before I bought it.
We have a bunch of before after photos if you are interested, but please do not waste my time.
304 IH rebuilt in 2011- Minor oil leak up high
BW 3 spd auto- Parking paw has been out since we got it running again. I have 2nd tranny minus the pan that will go with it. It does leak around the pan now.
Suspension- IHPA springs, shackles and all new bushings. We put in Rancho shocks.
Brakes- Disk brake conversion on the front. Rear were complexly redone and the E brake works
Steering linkage was upgraded to 1 ton parts, no more sloppy steering.
Seats original and all recovered to look as stock. Rear bench plywood is now cracked but the seat is intact
New Chevy 1 wire alternator
Original radiator was cleaned and professionally gone through.
Original hard top is in great condition, with original headliner. Best top soft top included.
Fuel gauge does not work. All other original gauges work.
Bunch of misc. parts to include side marker lights to g with the sale.
Fuel Tanks- Both cleaned and operate appropriately.
Body- No rust. The worst part on the body is where someone drilled trailer lights behind the the rear tires. There is no bondo on the Scout. We did a DIY paint job when we first got it due to previous owner sanding it down and rattle can priming it. Our focus was on drivability
This thing runs great. We started it a few times last year just to move it around. This year we have taken it out 1 time for almost 100 mile road trip and it still runs great.
Let me know it you have any questions.
We are in Dubuque Iowa
