That title wouldn't make sense to many people...

I know this has been asked in the past, but I keep getting conflicting info or 4 cylinder pancake info, so I came to the "no bs" source.

I have an 800 with a 304, t90, and d20. I'm trying to decide if I should keep the IH drivetrain or swap in the typical sbc, and the main question remaining is how difficult a t18 or t19 swap would be.

As I understand it I need a bellhousing at a minimum. Possibly a different clutch, possibly a bull gear for the d20. I've also read that the 800 d20 won't bolt up to a sii t19. Is any of this true?

So I guess the bottom line question is: what do I need to do to swap either a t18 or (preferably) t19 into my '70 800 with the original v8 and d20? Am I limited on what year t19 I can get, and will my d20 bolt up?

Thank you in advance.

yes this is true sort of. The t18 on my '74 Scout was swapped out for a t19 out of a '80 diesel Scout and the d20 did not bolt up. However with a bit of grinding in the right places and it now fits fine. I have no idea if this applies to your situation though.

I like the t19 much better than the old t18. The shorter shifter is not smacking me in the leg while in 2nd and the syncro first is handy and also makes the trans quieter.
