1967 1200 new project

I live in atlanta, ga and just bought my first IH. It is a 1967 1200 pickup that appears to be original less a few parts that wear out on a 50 year old truck. The patina on the truck is amazing and it runs and stops but it is rough. Do I keep original or modernize? If I modernize any ideas on simple brake, gearing, possible motor options to make a truck that is more manageable around town? Thanks

What engine, trans and gearing are in there now. On my '71 1210 travelette adding an anti-sway bar made a huge difference. It went from tuna boat to sport truck. The drum brakes are ok if working properly.
