I put a deposit on a Travelette in Palm Desert Ca. Im picking it up tomorrow. The guy selling it bought it from a storage unit and its still covered in dust inside the storage unit. He knows nothing about it. It appears it was an Air Force truck because it looks like original paint blue with safety stickers on the dash. It has solid black aftermarket 17" wheels with low profile tires. It looks like it has a small block chevy with a turbo 350 trans. Pretty good shape. I bought it sight un seen, only pictures. Its a shorted all wheel drive 1100, but I don't know what has been done with the front axle. Doesn't appear to have a transfer case. No pictures of the axle, but it has a new brake booster. I think I got a good deal, but we will see.

Sounds like a cool truck. Bummer the original equipment is gone, Ive seen various airforce vehicles with stupid low mileage. Anyhow it should put a fair amount of power down with the cheby engine in. Look up under the dash at the vents for rust, also on the cowl under the hood and the lip that overhangs the top edge of the firewall. If you're lucky its been under cover its entire life and will be rust free, but still, pop off that center cowl vent and vacume it out well. The dust on it is likely in there too and it will trap moisture around the vents and start rott.

Turns out it has 20" rims, straight drop axle with disk brakes and a fuel cell under the bed. Put air in the tires a little gas and it fired right up.

Thats a slick looking ride you got there. Any plans for it yet or are you leaving as is? Judging from the patina, there more than most lilely is rot in the vents, unless whoever modded it has already adressed it. In that case you scored big.
I put it on the lift today and it looks like it has a new transmission. Definitely need to re work the steering to add power. Looks awesome, nice find! Really good stance as well. Hard to believe the floor has holes and the vents arent rotten, just to be clear, the vents under the dash, that rott from watter that gets in through the vent in the cowl. See pic. As far as I understand most cap these off. I believe the floor has patches available.
