Can someone tell me what parts make up the horn system under the horn button? So once the horn button cap is removed, what parts make up the operation? I''m trying to determine if I am missing any parts and why the horn will not activate.

And...
When the steering wheel is installed correctly, are the thicker arms on the top half of the wheel?

Above the steering wheel you will have:
1) the plastic button with IH on it
2) a spring
3) a little cupped brass disk (the contact)
4) the button retainer and metal disk assembly, that the contact makes contact with to sound the horn.
5) 3 screws holding the button retainer to the top of the wheel.

Under the wheel.

1) a slip ring mounted to the under side of the wheel
2) a brush to make contact with the turning wheel coming through the column.

Other.
1) horn relay
2) the horn

the button retainer is electricaly connected to the slip ring via the one of the 3 screws you can see under the button. The brush under the steering wheel that rubs on the slip ring is connected to the horn relay and supplies the relay with a ground when the horn button is pushed. The ground it from the spring and comes through the steering wheel shaft.the ground is from the spring and comes through the steering wheel shaft.

The horn is grounded at it's location and powered (12v +) through the relay.

So the order of the parts under the button is .
1 button
2 brass disk lays in the center recess of the button.
3 the spring holds the disk in to the button and site against the steering wheel nut below the retainer.

Push the button, the disk makes contact with the retainer thus grounding the relay which powers the horn....

Does anyone have a picture of what the:
3) a little cupped brass disk (the contact)
looks like? I fear I am missing this item in my assembly.

One of the three riveted black blocks is cracked, thus making it difficult for the horn cap to twist and lock into place, anyone have another of these:
4) the button retainer and metal disk assembly, that the contact makes contact with to sound the horn.

You have the same setup on the 64 t-all as the Scout 80. See attached photo ( google search).
The parts are out there used and maybe new production. Give IHPA a call and see if they have what you need.

I purchased the missing piece...the brass disc that lives between the horn button and the spring. The brass disc I received is made out of steel versus brass. Does that matter? I now have all pieces described in this thread. Though I now need to search for the horn relay and the horn itself under the hood. Any hints on where they live?
