1964 Scout

You're welcome. Glad we could be of help. Remember, the only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked.

Chappie, I found my Scout to need a motor. It now has a slant 4 and I would like to know if a 345 will work with the current bell housing and trans. If not, what small v8 will work.? Thanks.

Scout II or Scout 800 or 80?

It makes a big difference

The op's title says 64 Scout.

@ daddyray, no to will the 345 bolt up to the 64 bell. While the engine will bolt up, the 4 banger bell housing bolt pattern kicks the engine 15 degrees towards the drivers side. That is not a good look for a 8v.

The physical size of the IH 304/345/392 (all basically the same size) will require some creative metal work to shoe horn any of them into a 61-67 Scout.

A "belly button" (small block Chevy) will fit assuming you can source an adapter with no cutting other than maybe shifting the mounts a bit. The t90 3 speed will survive so long as you don't hot dog it.
