160 thermostat for a Palmer IH 392?

I was looking and found a thread that mentioned this existed.
If so do you have a part number and picture to look at?

This is what I currently have. Which is a large thermostat like would go in a dt 466 or an old 60's 4 cylinder Scout.

This one is a 170 temp.

Looks different. The tall can part on mine rises up and closes off the bypass which then lets the coolant flow out the the two side ports into the heat exchanger.
I emailed stant and asked if they has a part number.

I did find this parts list for dt466 showing 160 thermostat.

I am pretty sure the port motor has a 160 version and I know starboard has a 170. At least I recall that from when I looked into this a couple years ago. That 160 is a rare bird.

I started the engines cold and watched to see when the thermostats opened. Port motor opens much sooner.
When motors are running port motor seems cool around 150 and starboard looks to be 175.

I might need a 170 for the port motor.
I blocked off the exhaust inlet to the intake manifold on both of these because in the summertime heat it gets hot enough to give a big heat soak to the carbs. And less heat will help the heat exchangers cope in the summer. Have to do some run testing.

That ts is a common marine design also used in inboard early chyslers. I suggest contacting a marine engine outfit and see if you can find one to compare. As for 160*, yes that would be common but more common in raw water cooled unpressurized systems is 140*. I know where to get 170* all day long...
May I ask why you think 170* is wrong?

May I ask why you think 170* is wrong?

Sure. When I first got the boat, the starboard motor with the 170 was always running hot. I would get heat soak and hard time retarting after sitting about 30 minutes. Plus the thing tended to run a lot hotter on the gauge. It lead me to removing the thermostat, block the bypass hose and then the engines ran the same temps.

So looking into this found the other motor had the 160.
I always wondered about that 160 thermostat.

So I have blocked the exhaust to intake connection now, put the 170 back in and I think the 170 will work better. I also added a 3/4 inch carb wood spacer.
