152 sounds

So I had my 152 rebuilt by a shop and now it sounds like a diesel engine. Very noisy and loud even at low idle. Is this what it is supposed to sound like or is there something wrong? I don't have any exhaust leaks or anything it is coming from the valve cover itself. I thought it may just need to be broken in but it doesn't seem to be getting better. Just wandering if anyone else has noticed that or can shed more light on that?

I would pull the valve cover and inspect the rocker stands to determine if the one rocker stand that the oil supply flows thru is in the correct position to supply oil to the rocker assy.
On a 4-152 engine, it is the 3rd stand from the back (or 7th from the front).
This is the ONLY source of oil to the rocker shaft assembly.
Perhaps your rebuilder was not aware of the IHC engine oiling system configuration ?

Also, you can go to the "Gas Engine Tech" Forum and read the thread: "I-4 and SV Engine Non-Oiling Rocker Assembly" for details on this subject.

when it was running I put some lucas oil in it and it quieted down a little but almost sounds like it is tapping on the cover. Im going to do some investigating once I have it back in.
