1200 pickup questions

Hi everyone, new here and looking at a mid 60's 1200 3/4 ton pickup, 304 (no carb, not running but turns), 4 spd, 2wd, 6x7.24 bolt pattern, R-11 rear. As I do some research it seems that upgrades to these trucks are not easy, things like disc brake conversions or gear ratio changes for highway driving don't exactly fall off the shelf, rear drums made from unobtanium, etc. I'm always up for a challenge but just want to be sure I know what I'm getting into - usually there are workarounds on these forums but didn't find anything in my searches, so is this pretty much the case?

Thanks

As far as easy bolt on and go, that's a tough chance. But, axles from more modern 3/4 ton Chevy, Ford, Dodge can be swapped in to give you the common 8 lug wheel pattern and brake hardware. As you can imagine, it likely involves some careful measuring and light fabrication. Only the diehard purists stick with the big 6 pattern.

I have a 1970? 1300. Thanks for the advice on the rear axle swap to upgrade the rear brake technology. Any advice for the front axle upgrades?

Thank you

It would be cool if some interchange information could turn up. Where's the Hollander axle interchange book when you need it?
