11x3 lockheed shoes

In looking for a shop to reline the front 11x3 lockheed shoes for my 73 1110 I came across a possible source of new ones. Centric has a listing and part number of 111.03240. Anybody verify these are correct? The pic is a sketch and not actual picture so I am leary of ordering a set.

I have been looking for the same shoes! The centric part number does not cross with anything from o'reilly, auto zone, or car quest. Napa was closed by the time we went through all the other stores. Rockauto.com gave me the same centric part number you have and with the correct picture too. Only when I tried to order them, a message popped up that they were discontinued and were taken out of my cart.

I will be calling power brake exchange in sj in the morning to see if they can re-line them, I will post up after I find out.

I got the same response from centric themselves. I ended up sending mine off to be relined.
I was thinking though. The early Scout II used 11 inch drums up front, with a six bolt spindle, and bendix brakes although only 2 inches wide. Couldn't the backing plates be swapped and longer pins used thus fitting the common bendix 11x3 shoes?

Interesting idea about the brake interchange, I wonder if anyone has tried it. I bet mm would know, if he hasn't tried it already. It would not work with my Travelall because it's 2wd and the spindle is totally different from the 4wd. I've never seen the spindles from a 2wd Scout II so I can't say if they would work or not.

I went to b & a friction today and they had a set of the lockheed shoes already re-lined. They were bonded so I asked them to rivet them as well because I've had bad luck with bonded shoes before. I pick them up tomorrow, cost about $100 with exchange.

Try ch topping in long beach, CA. I had him drill (ventilate) the front drums on my '73 1110 about 7 years ago, and he supplied to linings too.

So, I ended up sending my shoes out to be relined. While they were out I separated the drums from the hub, rebuilt the wheel cylinders and put on new hoses. After a month wait I got the shoes back put them on and the drums won't fit! Appears as the lining is too thick.. I can get the drums on over the shoes with the help of a big hammer, but they will not rotate. Yes the adjuster is backed all the way off
do I have the drums turned again or have the parts store send the shoes back?

No, if you are certain the shoes are the correct ones (just checking!), then I'd find a brake place that would arc the shoes so they fit.

Over the years it's been my experience that the reliners have cut back on the thickness of the linings to save money, so I'd say you are luckier than most, at least as potential for wear goes.

Nick, I've been through the nightmare of the front 11x3 lockheeds on my 73 1110 (2wd fa-1 axle). I had the shoes religned and still had problems. I finaly gave up after much frustration and sent my spindles to abs power brake in orange,CA. For about $500 they machine your spindle to accept a disc hub, fabricate a bracket for a disc caliper and provide a rebuilt set of calipers, hoses, and new discs they use early 80's GM passenger car stuff- cheap, effective and common. The only problem I ran into was the hose they provided didn't match uo on the frame end. I sent examples of the 2 hose ends and length specs to ej johnston auto in georgia where they made custom braided stainless steel hoses for about $45. Think about it, return springs are unavailable for the lockheed brakes. If one of yours breaks, good luck finding a replacement. I tried sourcing alternative springs, but because of the unique design of the brake (spring attaches to the inner side of the shoe itself), nothing comes close (even after my local napa let me rummage through all their brake springs). If you want a set of new drums and wheels cylinders, along with those return springs made of unobtainium, I've got them and would be glad to get rid of them to erase any memory of the many problems they caused.

The bendix 11x3 stuff is much more common and all parts are available new, however I looked for 2 years for said backing plate; its even more rare than our 11x3 lockheeds.

My dads, d-ship had a relineing brake shoe press, and it had a vertical round sander on the side of it.what "they" did back then, even on big trucks is,they'd sand the shoe's to fit! I still have it in my shop.will get some pics in the next few day;s of it.I've even done the same to my '71-1210 t'all.custom shape them to fit the drum's.I know it's a bit of work but don"t re-turn your drum's. They're scarce as it is now....Jeff,or just sand them by hand just enuff for them to fit on.
