Are the stock replacement cams regrinds, new, or NOS right now. It’s time for a rebuild and I’d really like a NOS cam. I feel like that would be the most trust worthy option now days.
 
NOS cams haven't existed in 40 years. Many of the new cams were new blanks reground. They no longer make any blanks for stock grinds, all current stock camshafts are reground. We've never had an issue with them. The IH engine isn't a Ferrari engine, as long as you have the correct lifter preload and break-in, you'll be fine.
 
Yes they are, but I still had a Comp cam and set of lifters go down during a cam break in. It was a 345 in a Scout that I had. I figured that the stock valve springs would have been light enough for the break in but something still went wrong. I suspect that it was parts quality, as this was a set of new Melling lifters. It wasn't until after this failure that I found out that Melling lifters were being built out of blanks from China. That was a lesson learned. I do not want to take any chances this time.

Bummer, I did the complete comp cam kit and had no issues.
