1972 Scout II build
bought my 1972 Scout II in April of 2013.found it parked in a garage with 2001 tags on it.towed it home not running,no brakes & covered in 12years of az.dust.started it & repaired brakes(master cylinder & 4 wheel cylinders).I was just gonna flip it & the bug bit me.so I started to tear it down to assess overall condition.as it turned out I stumbled across a mostly original unmolested , solid Scout.so I figured I’d keep it & fix it up.here are some pics.what it looked like when I got it home.

Thanks for the replies, new to the fourm.Tom is my name.this is my first International.so please excuse the questions coming.I've been working on cars/trucks & motorcycles my whole life.been reading the ink off the shop manual.I've done a bunch of wiring repairs after 40 years of (fixing).here are some engine tear down pictures & pics of parts back from the machine shop.
Normal cam bearing issues.p.o. Did not seem to worry much about service.

Looks like its a total loss. Not much salvagable. Better let me take it off your hands and ill dispose of it properly...into my private collection :cornut:

looks good man. Keep up the good work

Welcome to the obsession. If you're not careful, they have a tendency to breed when you aint looking. I was starting to wonder about why you pulled the motor till I saw the cam bearing. A sad case of po virus. Otherwise the body looks to be in great shape

Good to see you're pulling that Ford motor and turning it back into a proper IH motor! Nice job and nice find.

My first thought was to gasket & re-ring it,but the cam bearings & the cam had 3 lobes going away.so I figured I'd do it once.having a friend that has a machine shop helps a ton as well.

Got some more parts in & painted

Great job! The motor looks really good in there. What size exhaust and what mufflers did you run? Have you fired it yet? How does it sound?

2 1/4 exhaust , magnaflow mufflers.I fired/broke in the cam without transmission or exhaust bolted on(the neighbors loved me).in case there were any problems would not be as much work to pull it out.exhaust has mellow tone,I've used magnaflows on 3 of my vehicles and have liked the tone on all.love flowmasters for race but to much for regular driving(for me anyway).

Nice work. It's going to be so much nicer to work on from here on out with everything all cleaned up. In the next last pic there is something mounted under the floor on the left side outside the frame rail. Is that a cooler fan or ? That's a real vulnerable location.
