The club will be honored with a tour of the hull-oakes sawmill This September. The saw mill is nw of monroe oregon and was founded in 1937. Half the mill still runs on steam, making it one of the last commercial steam saw mill operation in the country. Also, the mill specializes in big timber cutting up to 85' pieces. It has the capacity to do so, which is also becoming a rarity in the states. As I understand it the owner have quite the truck collection on site as well, so here's the details.

Date: September 7th

meet at: the southbound santiam rest area off I 5, exit 241 at 9:30am

we'll cruise from there down to the saw mill and receive our tour, after which the club will meet at the Bellfountain county park For a picnic lunch.

This looks to be a unique opportunity for all those who can attend, please post here if you plan to do so or have any questions.

It sounds like a lot of fun is in store for you folks.

Unfortunately, that is the first day of ballet for kd and mama has another obligation. So papa gets to go to ballet and won't be able to go out and play with the other boys.

Another time perhaps.

that is an osu home football game day,

Oh,oh it May be early enough to avoid traffic. Or you could avoid corvallis and come up from the south on 99w unless it also is choked with northbound fans.

Good point. I just checked the schedule and the game is at 5pm - so traffic wont be bad until 1pm'ish. So you guys will be set.

And the ducks are playing an away game that weekend, so no trouble there.

Hull-oaks tour still set for the 7th? What time should we be at the mill? I do have a couple of guys interested. Dave

Yep, the tour is still set, and from the timeline above, I am assuming everyone will meet at the mill around 1015 or 1030. I hope all who can go have a great time.

The tour was great! Thanks to clay and joanie for putting it together. This mill is a must see for anyone interested in the old way (no computers) of custom milling lumber. I will get the photos I took to carl so he can get them posted.

My apologies, it took me too long to get these photos from the tour up.
