How to remove A/C compressor

I have a 76 traveler with the 345. I want to remove the compressor and any other a/c components I can to clean up the engine bay but haven't been able to find any info on the particulars of doing this. Is it simple as buying new belts and capping where I remove hoses?

Is there any freon left in the system? If so have some one pump it out. Then proceed as per your post.

not sure, how do I check?

Near the compressor there should be a capped valve called a schrader valve that looks like a big tire valve. Remove the cap and press the center like you were letting some air out of a tire. If you hear a hiss the system is still charged.
