Borg Warner shifter shaft seal

Guys I need some help, I'm trying to stop the bleeding out of the tranny. So far I've replaced the pan gasket, replaced the vacumm modulator o'ring and I still have a leak. I think its leaking from the shaft that runs through the housing that the linkage hooks to. I'm wondering if I have to remove the valve body to replace that seal and if that seal is availiable? Any help would be great. Its a borg warner 11 (t39)

I've never tried to do this, but according to the service manual it can be done, though it is very time consuming.

You will have to pull the pan and remove the "nut" from the end of the shift shaft internally. Then the shift shaft pulls out exposing the seal.

As to "what part" for the actual seal, I don't know. That is a part that will have to be located. When you remove the old seal, be sure to try and maintain it's condition so it can be used for measurement for a replacement.

Thanks Mike, if I do end up pulling the valve body is there going to be seals that need replacement in that as well?

Doesn't appear to be anything inside the case other than the "o" ring on the actual electrical kickdown switch.

Got it tore apart, after removing the pan I decided to remove the valve body, there just isn't enough room to get at the internal linkage if you don't. I believe I also found a seal for it, its for a Ford fmx trans. And the part # is a napa atp 1404

The fmx is a derivative trans based upon the cast iron borg warner. Good to know that part is an interchange!

Hi
I have the same problem. How long did it take to do the job and was it hard. Should I buy a new lever just encase of rust or wear n tear?
Thanks
