No juice..... any ideas?

I have a 77 Scout, everything is original. Ignition is the Holley electronic ignition with the gold box and dizzy. It has always run and have never had any problems until now. I start it up every so often and I had it running the other day and it just died. I replaced the coil and nothing. It turns over like it wants to start but no juice is comming out of the coil. There is no spark comming out of the dizzy either. Should I replace the gold box? I don't really understand how the gold box system works. Any help is appreciated.

This same "issue" comes up quite often!

I've personally never seen or delt with a failed trigger unit inside a gold box distributor, but I'm sure there are some that have died out there. But by and large they are indestructible as long as they are not connected directly to a battery!

The issue you describe has always come down to a failing (or failed) amplifier or "gold box" regarding the vehicles I work with. And in my opinion, had ihc mounted the box up on the outside of the radiator support where it sees air, they would never fail.

So repair for a situation such as this comes down to...do ya want to keep the vehicle oem or just fix it?? If the answer is "fix it", then I'd be much more prone to simply installing a pertronix ho-181 module inside the distributor and eliminating the entire gold box amplifier.

Ok, it's a breakerless dizzy. Can I bypass the gold box or should I just replace it? I have looked up replacement stuff and I found hei and mallory dizzy swaps, do they retain the gold box or do you have to use something like an mds box to wire them up?
 
We have many threads right here in this sub-forum regarding this same issue. Take the time to read through this entire sub-forum in order to educate yourself about this mattter. Just do a search using key word "gold box" and see what ya find!

If you decide to use the pertronix unit inside the distributor,...you will eliminate the gold box and it's particular wiring completely. You will reuse the existing distributor and remove the internal trigger and all wiring from the distributor and install the pertronix unit instead.
