Wow has it been a year already? Time flies when your wrenching on old iron!
Are you ready for our third annual toys-for-tots charity drive?
Last year's event drew six vehicles and a dozen people. This year let's shoot for ten and twenty. How about opening this up to other car clubs?
There's a guy at work who's into wheeling fourrunners. I was thinking of inviting him and his toyota buddies to join us. I'm sure the rest of you have connections to other groups that would want to join in. Perhaps a classic car club, book of the month club, vfw group, boy scouts, soccer team, quilting circle, toast masters, etc. It doesn't have to be IH connected. People like to give and organized people really like to give!
Thoughts?

Location, location, location.
Since this is our third year and since we have had two different destinations both years, I thought that finding a new destination this year would be appropriate.
Granted our first year was a disaster. The uscm recruiter's office that we had arranged to drop off at was closed. So we had to leave toys with a couple of army guys. Last year was much better. We met for breakfast in the hacienda plaza then dropped off the collected toys at the pleasanton fire station.
The firemen were real nice to us and showed us their antique fire trucks.
Since the fire house worked out so well last year, how about hitting a different one this year. Iirc there's a firehouse about 1/2 a mile from the '50s dinner, on argonaught dr. Mrs. Moose has volunteered to call them and see if they are still open and if they are doing the t-f-t thing.
Of course if you have a better idea, I'm open to suggestion. Plans can be finalized at the November meeting.

Now is the time to start collecting. Christmas items are starting to pop up in the stores. Pretty soon it'll be thanksgiving. And before you know it, it'll be December. So there's no time like the present.
I've ginned up a flyer that you can use to hand out to your friends and neighbors. It'll get them to thinking about picking up a gift the next time they're shopping. Heck, they might even show it to some of their friends! Just don't forget to follow up a week or two later. It never hurts to nudge a memory.
Or make your own flyer. My graphic arts skills suck. I'm sure someone can do a better job.
I've asked the h.r. Lady at work if I can put a collection bin in the cafeteria. Haven't heard back yet....

Here's a picture of last year. After breakfast we applied the bling for the trip over to the firehouse.

Mrs. Moose found out yesterday that the ffd will be accepting toys-for-tots donations up until December 16.
So we should plan our event for dec 11th or 12th.
I'll swing by the firehouse today after work to check out the parking situation.:yesnod:

That sounds good my registration will only go tell the end of this month then I gotta eather figur out how long tell I get my licens plates or register the tow truck

Here's the plan, as of Tuesday night's meeting...

Meet for lunch at noon on Saturday, dec 11th at the '50s diner.
Then trundle on over to firehouse #7, 43600 south grimmer blvd.

It wasn't mentioned at the meeting, but do you want to do the truck decorating again this year? :confused5:

Yup, a couple hours should do it.

I gotta remember to pick up some tinsel and ribbon.

If anyone collects some toys but later can't make it to the run, I'll be glad to pick 'em up from you.

Good news!
My company has graciously allowed me to piggy back our toys-for-tots collection on their "family giving tree" event.

Tonight mrs. Moose and I plan on dropping off a collection bin at dina's family restaurant. They let us put a bin out last year and we collected about a dozen toys.
We gotta put one out at the '50 too...

Ok, we put a bin out at dina's. Tonight we're going to the '50s to have dinner and put one out there.
Bummer, it's not Tuesday... No all you can eat spagetti special!

I made some triangualar "stand on the table" dohickies to leave with the '50s. Hopefully it will clue people in as to what that funky collection bin is doing there.:icon_rolleyes:

I checked the bin at dina's the other day. Someone put a shopping bag of toys in there!

I've got a half dozen or so toys from the bins at work too.

Haven't been by the 50's lately.

How are you all doing?

If you are going to join us for toys for tots, please post up so we know how many tables to reserve. I have 7 people coming with me.

I will see you there... Not sure if it will be me or if I will be brining the rest of the family... Will let you know soon :)
