Wow has it been a year already? Time flies when your wrenching on old iron!
Are you ready for our third annual toys-for-tots charity drive?
Last year's event drew six vehicles and a dozen people. This year let's shoot for ten and twenty. How about opening this up to other car clubs?
There's a guy at work who's into wheeling fourrunners. I was thinking of inviting him and his toyota buddies to join us. I'm sure the rest of you have connections to other groups that would want to join in. Perhaps a classic car club, book of the month club, vfw group, boy scouts, soccer team, quilting circle, toast masters, etc. It doesn't have to be IH connected. People like to give and organized people really like to give!
Thoughts?
Location, location, location.
Since this is our third year and since we have had two different destinations both years, I thought that finding a new destination this year would be appropriate.
Granted our first year was a disaster. The uscm recruiter's office that we had arranged to drop off at was closed. So we had to leave toys with a couple of army guys. Last year was much better. We met for breakfast in the hacienda plaza then dropped off the collected toys at the pleasanton fire station.
The firemen were real nice to us and showed us their antique fire trucks.
Since the fire house worked out so well last year, how about hitting a different one this year. Iirc there's a firehouse about 1/2 a mile from the '50s dinner, on argonaught dr. Mrs. Moose has volunteered to call them and see if they are still open and if they are doing the t-f-t thing.
Of course if you have a better idea, I'm open to suggestion. Plans can be finalized at the November meeting.
Now is the time to start collecting. Christmas items are starting to pop up in the stores. Pretty soon it'll be thanksgiving. And before you know it, it'll be December. So there's no time like the present.
I've ginned up a flyer that you can use to hand out to your friends and neighbors. It'll get them to thinking about picking up a gift the next time they're shopping. Heck, they might even show it to some of their friends! Just don't forget to follow up a week or two later. It never hurts to nudge a memory.
Or make your own flyer. My graphic arts skills suck. I'm sure someone can do a better job.
I've asked the h.r. Lady at work if I can put a collection bin in the cafeteria. Haven't heard back yet....
Here's a picture of last year. After breakfast we applied the bling for the trip over to the firehouse.
