Does anyone know what this spacer is between the t90 and Dana 20? Im not sure where the engine came out of or the trans. Its a 345/t90/Dana 20 the spacer has the same style numbers as the trans ending in a aa I believe

Not an unusual combo at all.

Typical t90/3-speed trans with the tailhousing adapter to go to a d20 "twin stick" case. The twin stick was the standard setup on the early d20 cases for IH applications.

Would have been a standard setup behind a t-90-equipped 266/304 in a Scout 800 (or behind a 152 or 196 with a different bellhousing and clutch arrangement). Scout 800 never had a 345 option so if the engine this is connected to is indeed a 345, it's not original to any Scout 800.

The same type of tailhousing adapter would have been used if the transmission was a borg warner automatic behind a sv-powered Scout 800. This is what provides the so-called "texas"-pattern mounting arrangement for the transfer case.

A Scout 800 oem-equipped witha d20 would have had a "centered" pumpkin d44 rear axle due to the position of the rear output on the d20.

The truck itself was a 152 four banger with a Dana 18 and 27's front and rear before I started. I got the engine, trans and case out of a 1970 800a that was a orig 304 v8. As for the front and rear are Dana 30 and dana44. I pulled the body off and did the conversion but had not seen that setup on any of the four banger scouts I've had.

You are right...the "short" t90 needs the adapter tailhousing to make the span to the transfer case. Those are real short transmissions that date back to the 1920's! That keeps the transfer case mount and driveshaft spans in a common position whether the rig was oem with the three speed or the four speed (or the borg warner slushbox).

Likewise, the rear of a t-18/t-19/t-98 four speed has a "spacer" adapter bolted on that adapts the transmission to a married transfer case. And those will vary in bolt pattern based upon the oem application. Those are a nominal 1.5" in thickness.

What does it consist of inside? I have a few Dana 18's and 20's for spares that were bolted directly to the four banger t90's. Will those spares bolt rite up to that spacer if needed? Thanks for all the info michael your learning me.

Inside that extension housing there is...air!

The transfer case end will have a ball bearing and a seal behind the bull gear to support the rather long transmission output shaft, lots of side/thrust load placed on that shaft because of the helical design of the bull gear and the d20 intermediate gear it meshes with.

I don't have a picture of one of those for that exact same setup, but here's a similar items as used with the borg warner autotrans between the trans and the d20 as used in a married application for Scout 800. Notice it also uses the "thin" adapter plate as found on t-18/t-19 manual trans, so there are two adapters used in this instance to marry the d20.
