transmission

I have a 69 Scout with a automatic transmission. It is a 2wd Scout. What kind of transmission could this be? It is original to the Scout.

If an oem install, then the auto-trans would be a cast iron case borg warner unit. Something along the lines of a model 11.

The vehicle May or May not be equipped with a marine-type heat exchanger for transmission cooling, the torque converter itself incorporates a fan in it's design and is considered to be "air cooled".

Thanks for the reply. There is a transmission cooler in front of the radiator. Are there rebuild kits for this type of transmission?

I know of one possible supplier for master kits for those transmissions. They are a wholesale distributor only though that deals only with transmissions service shops and do not sell to the public at large.

Try a local "old time" transmission shop, most modern tranny shops have nobody left who works on these items though they are very similar to the Ford version known as a "fmx". The Ford parts will not work directly in a bw 11 however, it's "based" on a bw II but is not the "the same as" the urban myth might lead you to believe.

I told the symptoms of the tranny to my transmission guy here and he said that I need a new transmission pump. I am sure this is going to be hard to find as he has no resource for one. I heard that a 727 be a drop in replacement. The engine is a 152 4 cylinder.

No way a 727 is a drop-in!

Sure it's doable, and even more simple if it's a 2x4. But everything from the crankshaft flange back is different. And to do it right, you must use a "new" neutral balanced flex plate or have a v8 flex plate neutral balanced. The 727 was never offered behind a 152.

You will also need the crankshaft spacer for a 727, the spacer and flexplate for the borg warner is totally different.

Why does your guy say it "needs a pump". That is a very unusual item to replace on any autotrans and is a separate "hard part" that will never be included in a "master" rebuild parts kit.
