I have future plans for getting my ham license and installing a radio in my Scout. Only problem is I don't know what I'll need in the future. Probably a dum question but will this system work for me? I really don't know much about these at this time.
 
Well, depends on what you're looking for.
This one has a waterproof/dustproof control head, which can be seperated from the main body. Nice feature, as it allows the body to be out somewhere safe. The control head is small and can be put up where it's easy to see and operate. Also the bluetooth intercom allows communication between operator and passenger (spotter) up to about 30 ft.
You May not need a dual band radio though. Dual band allows access to more repeaters, but a mono band radio can be had for around $125 (on sale).
So if you just want a basic radio this might be too much, on the other hand, you won't be saying " I shoulda got a dual band...
