Part number?

Would anybody have the part nimbers or could tell me what to look for (pictures) on a Dana 44 long side axle shaft and stub on a 1976 terra front axle? Theres a local guy who does 4x4 trucks and hes got tons of these parts in a big pile, but I need to know what to look for? Or does anybody know where to pick one up?

We are talking the "boom" damage right? All you need is the u-joint very common. Pull the axle and replace the u-joint. Of course while you have it apart you should do wheel bearings, seals, spindle bearing on both sides of the axle. Check your ball joints to. I just finished all of this on my Scout and ihon supplied all the parts. Give Jeff a call.

Ron the axle is busted. Blew metal all over the place were the u-joint goes in the hole on the long shaft side. I'm hoping to just find the whole stub/u-joint/shaft and just replace the whole thing at one time? I called Jeff and they didn't have any used ones. Hoping to find a used one since its just a weekend rider up to the creeks around here.

Ihon has all parts needed for this operation as ron suggests.

In fact, Jeff shipped Matt g. An entire set of these parts for his sii d44 steering axle a few days ago, it's going under the knife here at binder u. Tomorrow for a complete front axle outer rebuild this weekend.

It's gonna get hub bearings, spindle bearings, ball joints, and axle u-joints, ya do that while the axle is down since all the stuff is exposed for ball joint service. The brakes were refreshed about a year ago so they will simply be r&r.

If your looking for used, post up in the classifieds "wanted goods" I'm sure someone would have one.

For reference in making an id of boneyard Dana/spicer axle components, use this reference available online:

http://www2.Dana.com/pdf/x510-8dsd.pdf

There are variations in overall length of passenger side and driver side front axle shaft assemblies used in the Scout II platform, you need to make a positive id of the shaft you have by measuring it's overall length accurately and comparing to the replacement parts data in this guide.

I was typing while you was a post-in, and it got mixed up in the satillite micro-waves of the earth and your mirco-waves must've been faster than my micro-waves so it ended up mak-in me look ignorant; which, by the way isn't hard to do. I know it's gits redundant dealing with us ignorant new comers on a daily bases. In closing I would like to thank you for your time and knowlege that you so freely give on this form (it's invaluable to everybody that happens upon these pages). Thanks again and peacelove:icon_heartbeat:

I looked through the link you provided but don't see my year? On page 169 its skip the years 1976-1977 for a Scout II or a traveler? I have a terra buts that the same as a traveler I assume. Any knowlege on this?

I can't explain why Dana/spicer doesn't show the 76/77 stuff as a separate line item.

But...if you compare your bom number on your axle with the specs, ya May see that the parts are the same. This just takes some careful detective work.

There are many bom numbers not found in that reference (for all oem, not just ihc), in that case, ya gotta contact Dana/spicer techassist directly for definitive info.

But if you compare the dimensions for the axles that are shown, with the overall length of your axle shaft assembly, you will most likely find commonality.
