67 Sout 800 brake question

Hello I'm new to this site. I was wondering if anyone here has done his own front disc brake conversion on a Scout 800? And if so how? Any imput would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

I had a set up that I was sure could be made to work. All wilwood hardware and hydraulics. Only had to make caliper brackets and change the rotor hat hub mounting dimensions. I will have to finish it before posting due to saftey reasons.

Basically I was going to use the 4 piston caliper that my funny car uses and that is where it started.

No other progress than a list of potential parts and dimensions.

Welcome to ihon red!

We need to know which axle you are considering doing the disc conversion on. So please post the details of the axle under consideration.

There is a lotta commonality in doing a conversion such as this, but it's dependent upon the axle set being installed or that is already in place.

Is that your rig that appears as your avatar?

Its a 1967 Scout 800. Everything is stock on it. It has the 196 four cyliner engine, Dana 18 t-case, and a Dana 27 axel up front. I think the rear axel is a Dana 44. The avatar is a pic of a friends Scout. Mine is same body style, just in a little worst condition.

Not gonna say ya couldn't set up disc brakes on a closed knuckle d27, but it would sure be a waste in my opinion!

You would be much better off I think in mounting up either a Scout II d30 that already has disc brakes, or of course go with a Scout II d44/disc combo. Either axle will be a bit wider than what ya have now, but this is a very popular swap!

If your d27 has the optional 10" drum brakes, those are actual really decent capacity stoppers if they are correctly rebuilt and ya stay with 31" tires or smaller,...even with no power assist.

Looks like an old post but what the heck. I did a Chevy disc conversion on the front Dana 25 (which is basically the same as a 27) on my 51 willy's pickup, and it was simple.

Ryan up at "the Jeep guy" up in portland sells a complete kit for the early dana25/27/30 closed knuckle front and it is a bargain and is a complete bolt on set up. The components are simple and readily available at the junkyard or parts store if one knows what to look or ask for.

Chevy 1/2 ton backing plates, Chevy calipers and cj5 rotors. He swaps a bearing race or two for correct offset, then it comes down to setting up a new master, lines and proportioning valve.

Not a waste pf time if you like your original rig and you can transfer all the parts to a newer upgraded axle if you so choose later down the line.
