knuckle draggin

I am having a bitch of a time separating the steering arm from the knuckle. I am afraid if I heat it any more it will turn to ash and I don't want to lay into it with a 20lb sledge.

Any ideas?

What kind of steering arm? The boomerang push-pull arm on a fullsize truck?

Did you get the tapered crush washers out?

Did you beat on it?

Did you pour pb blaster all over it?

Keep hammering on it -- just try and get it to come straight off.

Yes, the boomerang. I did not get the tapered washer/jam nut out. Pb blaster has been applied, but not a daily dose. I think I will apply the blaster morning and night.

I have been using a 2lb hammer on it. I knocked it around a bit with the 10 lb but flattened a couple stud threads by accident. I am dubious to grab the 20 lb for fear of bending or damaging the cast steel. Any ideas on what hammer is better for use in this?

8# has always worked for me.

And a chisel to wedge inbetween the amr and the knuckle. The key is to get the conical washers out - then hammer and drive it off.

Got and air hammer and a blunt bit?

Pb the hell out of it (for a couple days), then lay into it with the air hammer on the side of the arm. The goal is to vibrate the cones loose. Once they are out, your life will be much simpler.

You could also grab the studs with a pipe wrench and twist them out, then you will have nothing holding the arm on.

They are it pita, but they come off.
