Hi all:

I have a 304-v8 with a missing freeze plug. The hole measures 1.65". Napa online shows several choices. Shallow or deep cup in brass or steel. Which one is correct:idea:

this engine is in a 1969 boyertown merchandizer (metro what-to-be) its on a m1200 chassis.

Thanks,

"which" core plug ya referencing??

The four plugs in the front and rear of the block are 1-3/4" spec, shallow style.

The six plugs (three on each side) on the sides of the block are common 1-5/8" deep-style.

Both those are nominal design size, not exact measurement.

I try and use brass in all my repairs as they are much easier to install, but the oem plugs were cad-plate steel.

Mike:

it is one above the oil filter. As you suggested I went with the brass deep cup. A little tight for swinging a hammer but its in and not leaking. Added some water and ran her up to temp.

Thanks,
