Steel order

I'm getting ready to order some steel.
Anyone need anything? Post up your needs and I'll get a quote.
All orders must be paid in full in advance.
Last day to order Friday the 14th.

Is it possible to get a 4 foot stick of dom? Or is this 20 foot sticks only?..... I'll need some for my tie rod. Probably 1" inner diameter 1/4" wall. But I will get the specifics if this is possible.

Im looking for some ar (abrasive resistant) plate 1/8", can you get anything like that?

You can get short pieces but they cost more. I have some 1.25" dom, I'll make you a deal on.

If it's steel they'll have it. Get me the details...

Have you considered uhmw? It's more abrasion resistant then steel and weighs less. You can use it on top of a thin steel sheet as a skid. It's what I have on rock Scout and works extremely well. Port plastics in tigard is a great source. That is if terry can't get the ar you're looking for.

Yeah I thought about that stuff and might go with that depending on how much the ar plate is. I know that uber has ar plate as a skid without any supports from frame to frame, and hasnt dented or even scratched it yet, also its what they use to line the inside of dump trucks. Pretty tough stuff, not sure why more people arnt using it, other than the $.

Thanks for the info:icon_up:

Weight. Plain and simple. Outside of the Scout world (and the big gay truck mud world) weight is the enemy. Somehow most of us don't think about it...

But really once I add a sheet of 1/8" steel with 1/4" uhmw and a few 1"x1" supports, I dont think it would be any heavier than a sheet of 3/16"......would it?

Plus a 48" by 48" sheet of 3/8" uhmw is $217.39 yikes!!

A piece of 1/8" steel weighs in at 81 pounds and a sheet of 3/16 is 122 pounds. Uhmw weighs about 1/8 of what steel does, or about 22 pounds if you got it in 3/16's. I am not saying it's any better then what you are going for, but it should end up lighter and more resilient then steel.

Wow, didnt realize a 1/6" made that much difference.

1/16" isn't going to impress your girl....

So maybe you want to re-group here.
4 x 4 x 3/16" ar =$267.71 + $55 to burn it out of a 96 x 288 plate!

I heard 3/4" plywood makes a good skid plate!

you might be on to something there.

Lol...uhmw looking a bit better now isn't it? Port plastics is where I got mine in tigard. They will cut it to dimension or you can go look through their store of remnants. It's what I did and found a piece, which I think ended up being under 100 bucks. Also, if you have enough left over, it makes a great foot for a high lift of jack stands when used on soft surfaces.

listen up grasshopper........cherry city!!!!!!!:dita: :dita:

I called them and they dont deal in that stuff anymore, but I do have a few places in portland that have ar remenants, I'll have to see if they have any cheaper peices that would fit.

Thanks for the quote terry!

Carl.....I shall resist your logic till the bitter end.:dita:
