1973 4x4 1010 IH Pickup Questions

I acquired a 1973 IH 4x4 1010 pickup this weekend and after getting it home and getting under it I've seen two potential problems....the guy who gave it to me said ever since he's had it, it has never had a front drive shaft in it...well at first glance I see that someone has put dual exhaust on it, and the pipe is right in the way of where the frontdrive shaft would go it appears. Second off, just looking, it looks like the driveshaft would be awful close the the transmission pan...is this normal? How close should it be? Oh, by the way, its a 345 v8 with a 727transmission and he told me it was a Dana 20 transfer case and from what I see thats true and Dana 44s....is it possible someone switched out transfer cases and there is no way I can put a front drive shaft in it or something? Where can I find a drive shaft for the front of this thing?

We can have a new driveshaft made for your truck. Its best to call in a order like this as we will need a measurement from you. But I find it odd that you have a Dana 20 in a fullsize. Are you sure about the transfer case? The manual does show one but I've yet to ever see one(in a fullsize that is).

Yea, everyone I've talked to finds it hard to believe that it has a Dana 20 in it...but I just looked at it again, and it's definetly a Dana 20.

Is the Dana 20 mated to the back of the transmission or divorced?

Can you post any pictures?

It is mated...here are a few pics, but I will take some better ones when I get time tommorow.

Somebody has cobbled this truck together. A 1010 was originally a 2wd torsion bar front suspension truck. One of the giveawaya is the boxed frame as only 2wd's came this way (4wd trucks had a 'c' channel frame). I also see front Scout II hangers and leaf springs. Plus the suspension is spring under axle - all 4x4 trucks/travelalls were spring over axle. I would say someone parted out a Scout II and mounted all the 4x4 parts in this truck.
