Does anybody have a part number for the pushrods for a 304 with the stamped style rocker arms. I believe some people are calling them the boat style rocker arms. They have the ballends on both ends and are 8 7/8 inches long. I need a few and can't seem to find the correct ones. The ones I am finding listed are either the wrong length or have the cup on one end.any help would be appreciated.

Our ihon push rod part numbers will not mean anything to any other parts jobber or wd, it's proprietary stuff to our line of parts.

But at my location I have a box of more than forty used ones that have been inspected, graded, and are indistinguishable from new.

Cost is $6 each, call Jeff at ihon to order and determine shipping.

Is there more than one length pushrod with the 304 nine bolt rockerarm assemblies? Is 8 7/8 the correct length?

From the factory the 304 v8 and 152 4 with the 9 stand rocher ass'y use one pushrod. 8 3/4 oal with a tape measure. The 345 and 196 and 9 stands pushrods are .800" longer so just about 9 17/32.

The double ball end rods used on the boat rockers I don't have measurments for at the moment.

A ball/ball "boat" push rod for 152/266/304 measures a nominal 8-7/8". I don't have a caliper that goes that large so I can't give you an accurate call-out, but that is not necessary unless you are looking at "over length" push rods.

Did I not send you some ball/ball pushrods for the 152 valve geometry jig Robert??? Thought I sent one set of all variations...maybe not. So tell me what you need in order to make a full collection of sample parts and I'll send 'em down. I have more 1904 main wells to send also.

michael,
you are right I do have them but did not have the chance to take measurements.:)

See...I can remember shit when I need to!

When ya have time, can you do an accurate measurement of all four push rod "lengths"? For the "ball and cup" items, can ya do an "overall" that would be helpful for quick identification....and then do a "ball tip" to "cup depth" measurement also so we'll have that data?

That way we'll have all the oem-type info in one place, and that can then be referenced against any "over-length" push rods we might order in or have manufactured in the future.

I'll be sending sets of all four push rod types that I've reconditioned and inspected down to ihon in the next few days along with all the other valve train components. Those will complement the new items on the shelf there also.

I thought I would add for reference: the correct way to measure a ball and socket type push rod in over theoretical diameters and not just the overall length. Below is the drawing I sent to a push rod manufacturer to have my custom rods made. Note the length over the .375 diameter in the socket end. The ball in the socket yields the correct installed push rod length.
Also the ball end of a IH pr has a flat that will add about -.015" error to the length.

Thanks for the help . I found the pushrods today. The correct pushrod part number for a 304 with the 9 bolt pedestal mount with both ends ballends is a melling pr-203s or a mpr-203s.
