Who can you recommend?

Hi,
I have to pick up some parts in richmond, CA and bring them home to van nuys, CA. I will need a small pickup or van as there is too much to fit in the trunk of a car. Who can you recommend or who have you rented a truck from at a reasonable rate? U-hall charges mileage, so I don't want to use them.
Recommendations, anyone?
Thank you.
Steve

I have actually rented a dodge pick-up truck from enterprise. Unlimited miles. Even a semi small suv, like an explorer would work. Check with both enterprise and hertz to see what they have available. Not sure what other auto rental companies would be available down in your area.

Hi,
I found a place close to me simply called rent-a-car. They were the cheapest at $34 a day with unlimited miles. So hopefully a Chevy wagon will work ok. It's smaller than a minivan and half the price of a minivan. Just haven't figured out how to get the transfer case out of it without breaking my back. Perhaps just need to make a ramp out of a sheet of plywood and let it slide down.
Suggestions, anyone?
Steve

That transfer case is definitely heavy. At least a minimum of 1" thick wood be a recommended. It's still attached to the bracket that was cut off the frame, that might allow for sliding down a make shift ramp. If you have an engine hoist and some chain or heavy duty rope, that would be helpful to unload.

Hi,
tied a piece of rope to the dolly to lower it down the ramp, then pulled it into my storage. The hardest part was lifting the t/c/dolly combination up about 4 inches to clear the van's back compartment/doorway lip. That is how much the van's back platform dropped from the weight of the t/c.

The pto is huge on that thing, I wonder if it's stock. It looks larger and somehow different from the other pictures I've seen of them. I was in a hurry to put it away in storage and return the van, so forgot to take any pics.

While I was gone this weekend another person stopped by asking the landlord if they could buy my truck. She's not happy when they do that. Think I need to put a cover over it so people can't see it as they drive by. But being a holiday weekend, the rental vehicle cost me 3 times what I had budgeted, so no money again.

Scooter, I see you got my pm, and thank you again.

More like a sign that says "don't ask!!"

glad I was able to help. I kinda thought that might happen with how heavy that transfer case is. I'm not to familiar with the pto units, so I couldn't say if it was stock or not. I didn't think about it and forgot about holiday weekends and rental companies jacking up the price.

Hope it all works out for ya. Catch ya later

Yes, a sign, what a great idea!
Thank you.
But not just any sign, a for sale sign - positioned so it can't be seen by anyone driving by, but clearly visible to anyone walking around the truck. And on the sign will be the words: for sale, $10k firm. That should eliminate anyone from asking. But if ever there is anyone willing to pay that much, $10k will sure go a long way toward fixing my '65 loadstar 4x4.
