Which electric choke type for a 2300/7448?

I've got a manual choke on my 2300/7448, but in reading through this site I'm starting to think an electric choke wouldn't be a bad way to go. I have seen two basic types of 2300/7448-compatible e-chokes for sale: one for an internal vacuum source (#45-223), and one for an external source (#45-224). The price is the same for either. Is one generally preferable to the other?

Hello patrick, between the 45-223 and the 45-224 I could not say because I did not see the 45-224 listed when I was looking but I did just recently purchase and install the '223 and I prefer it by far to the manual pull.

The only electric choke conversion system that will fit a list 7448 carb is the internal vacuum model, p/n 45-223.

And it's not just a choke body fitment issue, the fast idle levers between the internal and external vacuum kits are different also...because the end of the throttle shaft on the choke side is also different.

And to take this a step further so we can get it out of the way...while the 7448 (350cfm) and the 4412 (500 cfm) appear to be basically the "same" mixers except for venturi and throttle plate diameters...they are decidedly not!

The 4412 requires the external vacuum source choke kit along with an additional part in order to make it work.

When performing the choke conversion on the 7448, you must perform all steps including swapping out the fast idle levers and spring. Otherwise the choke will not operate correctly. Then the fast idle stop screw must be adjusted to achieve a fast idle rpm of 1400>1500rpm when the choke is full closed.

The b+ feed to the choke cap must be a switched b+ that provides current whenever the switch is closed...do not ever connect the choke cap to the ignition coil positive terminal!

Thanks guys for clearing this up. I couldn't find the info by searching the forum... "45-223" turned up nothing. I actually got the numbers from summitracing.com, where both the -223 and -224 are listed as applicable to the r7448. But we now venders can screw up application info, I figured I better ask here.

Fortunately, summit puts a link to a pdf of Holley's installation instructions on the kits' info pages. I read through it and so I knew about swapping the existing fast-idle parts for the ones included with the kit.

This project might have to wait a little while, but I wanted to know what's involved anyway. And at least it's explicitly stated now which kit is needed.
